Guitarist/vocalist Zëd Vëgä and drummer/vocalist Rÿvÿr Stÿxx began playing in the early 1990’s as teenagers, having shared stages with many top touring acts throughout their early musical career. Around 1996 their personal and professional relationships had deteriorated so they went their separate ways to pursue other avenues. Rÿvÿr took a job in a masking tape plant while moonlighting in a Supertramp cover band on weekends. Zëd abandoned the music industry altogether and spiraled into a desk-job and Oreo-assisted depression until his Ukrainian mail-order bride Svetlana encouraged him to seek help. In 2006 he befriended a young feral boy named Clïff Hängër and introduced him to rock-n-roll music. Clïff took to the bass guitar like second nature, and it was soon discovered that he had a sweet falsetto singing voice like that of a choirboy.
Hängër and Vëgä successfully toured Europe and Japan between 2006 and 2008 both in their own band and as roadies for the Scorpions but found themselves without a band upon their return home in late 2008. It was at this time Vëgä and Stÿxx (who was now drumming for blues legend Fat Harry Johnson) crossed paths once again and mended their friendship, eventually leading to the decision to once again join forces to thoroughly rock where needed. LOCKBOX was born.
LOCKBOX isn’t afraid of their influences, and will never claim to be independently unique, making them one of the most honest bands you’ll ever meet. In fact, the band openly embraces their mentors, and has no qualms filling a set with well-known rock favorites from the 60’s to the present. While LOCKBOX ultimately wants to be taken seriously for their abilities and talents, they also aren’t afraid to laugh at themselves and encourage a good time to be had by all, even if it’s at the expense of their own pride. The music speaks for itself, both in covers AND the band’s original material, and the band’s variety will be enjoyed by all. Performance should be more than just watching some guys play music, and LOCKBOX delivers the goods. All three members provide both lead AND rich harmony vocals to the mix, and the band’s guitar-slingers have a knack for surprising crowds from show-to-show with their instrumental trade-off. LOCKBOX aims to send audiences home pleased with an intense, fun performance that they’ll want to experience again and again.
