There is no reason why anyone that is American cannot be president. Whether you are of Asian, German or American Indian descent.

That is the basis of America right? That anyone can be anything at any time.

The way I understand it any American can be president.  If I am wrong or there are restrictions on color of Americans being President please let me know, I will gladly research it myself and then concede if you are correct.

Think of it this way.. If next we have a President of Asian descent.. RIGHT OFF THE BAT, he or she will have opposition just because of their ancestry.. Honestly would that be CORRECT in me saying that? Yes, of course they would!

But are we ALL not of another race? Other than the Native American Indians?

I am of Cherokee and Austrian descent, if I wanted to be President would I not have opposition because of my heritage? I would for some reason or another based solely on that.

We will never all agree on the same thing at the same time, that's a truth.  And believe me that all races that are in this country contributed to the freedom of us not being forced to agree.

There are bad people in the world no matter what their skin color or social status. And to be honest I admit even I have family members that would not allow me to bring a person of color to say Christmas dinner as an invited guest.  And I hate that, but that is "their" choice to be like that. I cannot change that in them, they are from another time and place where they were taught that is not okay.  And although times have changed drastically, sadly they have not.

Who knows what religion is right, who honestly has all the right answers? No one on this earth can say for SURE they know the true purpose or the right way to be.  All we can do is treat everyone equally. Seriously, everyone needs to be treated equally, what, we can all adopt new technologies as they become available and at the same time we can keep our archaic views of our fellow man??

As far as Barack Obama and this whole Nobel Peace Prize goes, I may not understand WHAT he did yet to achieve it, BUT, I do see where they are coming from in giving it to him.  It is their right to give it to whom they choose and if they feel that by giving him this it will advance or help speed up what he is trying to do then go ahead let him have it. Perhaps it will make his diplomatic talks more successful as it shows that someone felt that he was on the right path to achieve what he set out to do.

It was the kind of morning that most 17 year olds never experience. To begin with it was so early in the morning that nothing else in the world seemed awake, everything was asleep or dead. There was a smell in the air that was new to all of us.  It was the strong smell of the canvas of the 5-ton truck we were in, which is a hard smell to describe so you have to have been there to really know, as it is pretty much undescribable.  We were still in our civilian clothes and this was the last time that we would see each others individuality for pretty much the rest of our time together.

The one thing on every recruits mind from the minute they awoke that brisk October morning, was not to fail. Do not be the one that gets sent home! Nothing from this very point backwards, while standing on these yellow footprints mattered at all.  Not if you were a football star or the quietest kid in school. Not if you were tall or short, rich or poor, black or white.  From this point on we were all as low on the proverbial totem pole as one can get. In which, one of those notions were the first to go. There was no Black or White in The Marine Corps. There was only Light Green or Dark Green.

The Marines that were handling us for processing did not appear much older than we were.  But we were in awe of their camoflague uniforms.  They were so starched and perfect that it looked as though they could take off their camoflague blouse and actually button it up and stand the blouse right there on the cement!  The creases going down the middle of their sleeves were perfectly straight and almost appeared as if they would inflict a cut on your finger if you even touched it.  So far the higest up we had seen in processing was a Corporal.  And he commanded the whole room, effortlessly.  To us he was bigger than life although he was probably only around 23 years old and maybe 160 pounds soaking wet.

It was still dark even after standing on those yellow footprints for atleast 15 minutes, it seemed the sun was waiting to rise that morning.

Then we heard an echo of footsteps on the ground. More than one person less than one hundred for sure, but it was hard to tell how many dozens of people were approaching.  We all pretty much turned our heads to the right at the same time.  Then we saw them.  The first thing we could make out in the low light was the glisten of their gold belt buckles, then a few seconds later we could make out the shape of their headgear.  I think everyone stopped breathing for atleast six seconds right then and there.  It was our Drill Instructors and they were marching in perfect alignment straight towards us.  It was as if heaven opened up and sent the angels of death , destruction and whatever other horrible word you could conjur up right towards us, and plus we were frozen.

Basically, this thread is going out on SurfAnderson.com, Facebook, myspace and the Twitter-Verse.

Looking to  Get YOUR INPUT on the FORMAT of the new Newspaper. What do YOU want to see?

The PREMISE of the paper will be For The Reader's By The Readers. So readers.. What do you want in there?

Here's a few member suggestions we've received so far:

1. A Single In A-Town section (Covered by a guy and a gal). Where's the HOT places to meetup? What's the current "Dating Climate" in Anderson. Essentially the two authors would poke fun back and forth to each other all in the spirit of helping the READERS decide what to do and where to go. Think Carrie Brashaw, from Sex In The City but with a long overdue GUYS PERSPECTIVE!! (WE would still need contributing authors for both these things)..

2. Pick a WORD dealing with Anderson, SC then Print TWEETS from Twitter about what people are saying about it!!

3. Of course, we will have the up front in your face Satire of The Anderson Turnip. This will deal with real issues but put them in an entertaining yet informative light that makes it worth reading!

4. Feature a member or two from SurfANderson.com and ask them crazy questions like you see in these myspace quizzes that people love to fill out and pass on.

5. I guess there should be an actual NEWS element to the whole darn thing.. BUT what if we just reported GOOD NEWS? Would that be too boring?  Maybe we could put a Law & Order type spin on GOOD NEWS with Ice-T like commentary?

6. Horoscopes, but not your average run of the mill horoscopes.. Something new and entertaining for all the "I can't live my day without knowing if I should even attempt to go outside today" people out there...

7. Random, INSANE classified ads.. Who know maybe someone out there actually does need an ashtray in the shape of Michael Jackson?

8. Internet and PC tips tricks SECRETS to make your online life more fulfilling with a skewed view on things to guarantee to eat up your precious lunch hour browsing...

9. Video game cheats, glitches, codes and maybe a helpful RENT IT DONT BUY IT review thrown in....

10. Lottery numbers that DID NOT WIN...?? Just so you know of course.

11. Local sports reporting.. BUT instead of obviously pointing out the GAME SUPERSTARS... What if we give honorable mention kudos to the not so talented "RUDY-ESQUE players for a change???

America, Nukes and Ahmadinejad.. OH MY!!!
Posted September 24, 2009 by Joey

We're ALL patriotc here.. We all live in America. But when people like Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (Current President of Iran) points out ONE glaring flaw in our need to POLICE other countries to make SURE they do not possess the capabilities of producing a nuclear weapon that can actually be used then something is horribly WRONG!!

ALL it takes is one simple fact...

The United States was the FIRST to produce NUCLEAR WEAPONS and the ONLY Country to ever USE THEM on another country!!

So my thought is we don't HEAR ABOUT THAT FACT very much... All we hear is that AMERICA (Meaning Obama and gang) are trying their BEST to make sure the UN (United Nations) has access to MAKE SURE OTHER countries CANNOT do the same (as in blow other countries all to hell)...

Is it just me or is this the President calling the KETTLE black.. (No pun intended.. actually hell yeah PUN INTENDED!!)

People are good and trustworthy and generally just concerned with getting through the day," Newmark says. If most people are good and their needs are simple, all you have to do to serve them well is build a minimal infrastructure allowing them to get together and work things out for themselves. Any additional features are almost certainly superfluous and could even be damaging.

Here's a great article on him (Craig Newmark)

http://www.wired.com/entertainment/theweb/magazine...

Talks about why MOST of Craigslist is FREE, why it looks about the same as it did 10 years ago, and how ebay.com owns 25% and is actually suing Newmark!!

Made me think about Surf and how I CAN go overboard sometimes adding new (and often-times useless) things, when maybe I should just step back, simplify things and let all you guys and gals use Surf how YOU want it to be used..

HERES SOME COOL FACTS ABOUT CRAIGSLIST:

Craigslist gets more traffic than either eBay or Amazon .com. eBay has more than 16,000 employees. Amazon has more than 20,000. Craigslist has 30.

WOW!
